Why lawn disease hits KC lawns so hard

Tall fescue is the backbone of Kansas City lawns, and it has one real weakness: hot, humid weather. Know the signs

Brown patch shows up as roughly circular patches of tan, thinned grass — often a foot to several feet across — appearing in the hottest, most humid stretches of summer. Dollar spot makes smaller, silver-dollar-sized bleached spots that can merge into larger blighted areas. Both spread fast in the right conditions, and both are far easier to manage when caught early.

Prevention beats rescue

The most reliable approach is to apply preventive fungicide treatments ahead of and during the high-risk summer window, rather than waiting for disease to take hold. It's not just the fungicide

Disease pressure is also driven by how a lawn is fed and watered. Too much fast-release nitrogen in summer pushes soft growth that fungus loves; watering late in the evening leaves the grass wet overnight.
